Embodied Interfaces For Ruinous Sonics
Ran is an embodied sound artist who makes performances using devised frameworks to explore sound, body, and environment through mutuality.
Ran’s practice often employs novel listening and sounding apparatus that he constructs and designs, so as to create networks that can be manipulated, embodied and enacted.
Homebody:
The performance was the culmination of a one-week micro residency centred around a Victorian ‘one up, one down’ house set to be demolished.
I made a sound sculpture using materials gathered from the ‘one up, one down’ house, my own home, and the gallery space. A geophone and transducer created a feedback loop through the materials, making their materiality audible.
On the last day of the residency, I performed a short piece in which my body was introduced as a conduit between these materials from the three homes.
